This frass is an organic fertiliser. This frass comes entirely from herbivore insects (in this case the mealworm or Tenebrio Molitor); this means you are essentially feeding back digested plants to your plants making it a perfect, well-rounded form of plant food packed with microbial life plus chitin!

Unlike other 'certified' frass (where the insects are farmed for the reptile and pet industry), you won’t find any residues of pupating inhibitors and/ or growth hormones in ours.

If you look closely, you can see that our frass sometimes contains small exoskeletons from the mealworm and contains less wheat bran and more frass than any other commercially available frass on the market!

The importance of Chitin

Chitin is a naturally occurring molecule that is found in the shells of crustaceans like lobsters and crabs, as well as the exoskeletons of insects, in this case the mealworm.

Benefits of using this product

Because mealworm frass is made entirely from digested plants, it’s full of the nutrients plants require to grow robustly. Plus, millions of beneficial microbes from the guts of insects.

Chitin triggers the immune system of your plants causing them to rev up and defend itself against predators like root-feeding nematodes and disease pathogens in the soil.

Nutrient analysis

  • Total Nitrogen (N)  ......2%
  • Phosphorous (P) .........3%
  • Potassium (K)...............2%

How to use it

Use it alongside our other products for the vegetative stage such as Grow or Grow AUTO or when potting up and during early flower. It's a top dressing: add it to the top of your growing medium and water in well after application.

Suggested dosage

Soil: 2-4ml per litre of substrate (or up to 1 tbsp per gallon) every 2 weeks through the vegetative & early flower stages. Coco: Double the soil quantity.

For an indicative feeding chart showing how to use this product using a 20L pot, see our feeding page.

[Please note: unfortunately our 5L bags are the only items in our range that are not compostable: we cannot find a compostable bag that is big enough - as soon as we can, we will use it].

      Great products

I switched to living soils after using bottled nutrients for years and I am very impressed with the products. I used Grow, Bloom, Bloom 2, Wormcasts, Frass, and Barley and it made feeding my plants a whole lot easier. I followed the recommended recipe from the website and had no issues with nutrient burn or deficiencies and I just added water for the first 4 weeks before starting to top dress. I highly recommend these products to anyone.
