Gnat Attack has been specifically developed to target the larvae of dipterans such as fungus gnats, mosquitoes and blackfly: it’s completely harmless to beneficial microbes, other insects and animals plus it won’t be absorbed by your plant(s).
It’s a fine soybean meal that’s been inoculated with Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti). Bti has been proven to help control mosquitoes, fungus gnats and black fly: once it’s been ingested by the pest larvae it produces crystalline toxins that disrupt the pest's digestive system, dispatching them before they reach adulthood.
Bti is a targeted bacterium in that it only affects those three species of insects. It has no effect on humans, pets, wildlife, or even plants. Food crops won’t absorb it, and it won’t stay in the ground. It’s a naturally occurring organism, so organic gardeners can feel safe using it or any products where this has been added for you. Additionally, the soybean meal will be mineralised by the microbes in your substrate over time (in fact it is a key component of our Grow and Grow Plus mixes).
Dosage & application guidance
- Add 15ml (or 1 tbsp) to 1L of water, stir thoroughly, leave for 10 - 20 minutes, stir again then pour all over the top of your substrate (ensuring all dregs are used up). This is sufficient to treat 20L of your substrate.
The Bti in our Gnat Attack product targets pest larvae, so adult gnats may remain after the initial application: so if you want to control the adult gnats simultaneously, we suggest that you apply Diatomite after Gnat Attack application and then after a week, reapply Gnat Attack again.
Pack contents
The pack is sold in a biodegradable bag & the contents should weigh 24g (45ml by volume) - as 15ml (or 1 tablespoon) can treat 20L when added to 1L of water, each bag should be sufficient to treat 60L of substrate.
Storage
This product should be kept in a cool, dry place. It will last over 6 months from date of receipt.
